R34 vs Supra โ Which JDM Legend Should You Drive in FH6?
The R34 wins on raw speed, AWD grip, and cultural legend. The Supra wins on price, drift forgiveness, and modern chassis feel. Pick the R34 if you want a top-tier AWD time-attack car. Pick the Supra if you want a versatile RWD that drifts cleanly and runs every event type well. Both are correct answers; the choice is about use case, not quality.
The R34 vs Supra debate is the longest-running JDM argument in car culture, and Forza Horizon 6 doesnโt settle it. What it does do is give players a clean comparison: both cars are accessible, both are tunable to the S2 cap, and both perform well across road, drift, and touge events. This guide breaks down where each car wins, where each loses, and which one to pick for the playstyle you actually have.
1. At a Glance โ Spec Sheet
Both cars top out at S2 998 in the Autoshow. Base stats are roughly comparable, but the chassis and drivetrain differences are bigger than the PI gap suggests.
- Nissan Skyline GT-R VยทSpec II (R34) โ 2.6L twin-turbo I6, ATTESA E-TS AWD, base PI 891, Autoshow price ~165K CR. Heavier, more planted, RB28 swap-capable to 1,000+ hp.
- Toyota GR Supra (A90) โ 3.0L turbocharged I6, RWD, base PI 821, Autoshow price ~55K CR. Lighter, more responsive, 2JZ-swap-capable for the 1,000+ hp club.
The headline: the R34 costs 3x the Supra in the Autoshow. That price gap matters when youโre building a garage. Both can be tuned to the S2 cap, but the Supra gets there cheaper and has more headroom for the same PI.
2. Road Racing โ R34 Wins
On a road circuit, the R34โs ATTESA AWD launches out of corners harder than any RWD car at the same PI. In dry conditions, the AWD grip advantage translates to a 0.3-0.5 second per lap gain over a comparably-tuned Supra. The RB28 responds well to engine upgrades and forced induction tuning, and the chassis tolerates aggressive braking without the rear stepping out.
The Supra is no slouch. Its modern multi-link rear suspension and lower curb weight let it carry mid-corner speed more confidently, and on tight, technical circuits (Suzuka, Tsukuba) the gap to the R34 shrinks. The 2JZ in the Supra is also a tuning monster โ swap the engine for the legendary 2JZ-GTE and you have access to 1,200+ hp builds that match the R34 RB28 swap in raw output.
Verdict: The R34 wins on pure road-racing pace, especially on flowing circuits. The Supra closes the gap on technical tracks and benefits from a stronger engine-swap ecosystem. For pure A-class road-racing dominance, the R34 is the answer.
3. Drift & Touge โ Supra Wins
Drift is where the Supra pulls ahead decisively. The A90โs RWD-only layout, near-50/50 weight distribution, and modern electronically-controlled limited-slip differential make sustained drift angles accessible to players of any skill level. Tuning for drift in the Supra is forgiving: rear tire width, spring rate, and ARB tweaks move the car in predictable directions, and the chassis doesnโt surprise you mid-corner.
The R34 candrift, but the ATTESA AWD system fights rotation in a way that frustrates new drifters. The car will pull itself out of slides at the worst moments, especially in third and fourth gear. Experienced players tune around it (forcing more rear bias, lifting AWD percentage, manual transmission), but the Supra doesnโt need that workaround.
Verdict: For touge drifting, drift zone scoring, and Convoy drift events, the Supra is the better tool. The R34 drifts, but it requires more setup knowledge to drift well.
4. Cross Country & Off-Road โ R34 Wins
Cross Country events favor AWD cars with high ground clearance and big power. The R34 with off-road tires and raised suspension is genuinely competitive in Cross Country, especially at A-class. The Supra is too low and too RWD-biased to keep up on dirt unless you invest heavily in suspension and differential tuning.
Verdict:For Cross Country and Horizon Adventure off-road sections, the R34 is the clear pick. The Supra isnโt unusable, but the setup cost (suspension, tires, weight reduction) outweighs the benefit.
5. Tuning & Build Cost โ Supra Wins
The Supra is cheaper to build to the S2 cap than the R34. Both need engine upgrades, race transmission, race tires, full aero, and weight reduction. The Supraโs RWD platform is more forgiving on the differential settings, and the available engine swaps (2JZ) are deeply documented in the community, so dial-in time is shorter.
The R34โs AWD system requires careful tuning of the center diff, front-rear torque split, and individual wheel braking. Get any of these wrong and the car either push-steers (understeer) or snaps loose (oversteer). The setup knowledge is out there (the Tuning Codes guidehas R34-specific codes), but itโs not trivial.
Verdict: The Supra is the lower-friction tuning platform. The R34 has higher peak performance when dialed in, but the dial-in time is significant.
6. Auction House & Cultural Value โ R34 Wins
Both cars have strong Auction House pricing patterns, but the R34 commands a 2-3x premium over the Supra at any given PI. The R34 is also a frequent Festival Playlist reward car in Legendary trim, and the Forza Edition versions of both cars (Money Shift perks, etc.) trade at the high end of the Auction House cap.
Verdict: If you care about long-term garage value, the R34 holds it. The Supra is a working tool; the R34 is a portfolio asset.
7. The Final Recommendation
Buy the Supra firstif youโre early in your FH6 career. Itโs cheaper, more forgiving, and covers more event types. The Supra is the better daily driver โ it does road, drift, drag, and touge well, with a tune thatโs stable and easy to adjust.
Buy the R34 second, when you have specific use cases for its AWD advantage. The R34 is the car you want in your garage for time-attack leaderboards, Cross Country championships, and top-speed showcases. The R34 is the car you show off at Car Meets, not the car you grind credits in.
Buy both. The R34 and Supra complement each other in a garage the same way they complemented each other in real-world JDM culture. The Supra does the daily driving; the R34 does the legend. Players who own both and tune them for separate purposes have the most flexibility in any given event.
