Acceleration Basics

Getting up to speed smoothly in FH6:

  1. Hold W (keyboard) or RT (controller) to accelerate
  2. Speed builds gradually - be patient
  3. For racing starts, use Launch Control (Settings > Assists > Launch Assist)
  4. Use brake stall launch for manual transmission: hold brake, rev to 3-4K RPM, release brake + throttle
  5. Shift up when the RPM gauge approaches red (6,000-7,000 RPM)

Braking Techniques

Threshold Braking

Brake as hard as possible without locking wheels. Get the best stopping distance.

Trail Braking

Continue braking into the corner, release as you turn in. Good for fast corner entries.

Lift-and-Coast

Lift off the throttle before the corner, coast through. Safe but slow.

Handbrake Turn

Pull handbrake while turning for a quick rotation. Used in drifting.

Steering Fundamentals

Master these steering principles in FH6:

  • Look where you want to go - Your car follows your view
  • Smooth inputs - Never jerk the wheel suddenly
  • Weight transfer - Slow down before corners, accelerate through exits
  • Hand position - 9 and 3 o'clock for most situations
  • Counter-steering - Turn opposite when sliding to catch traction

Common Beginner Driving Mistakes

Braking mid-corner

Understeer and slow exit

Accelerating too early

Spin out or wheelspin

Jerky steering inputs

Loss of control and traction

Not looking ahead

Reactive driving, missed apex

Using wrong tire compound

Poor handling despite good driving

Pro Tip: Practice makes perfect! Use the Horizon Story missions and easy championships to build muscle memory before tackling harder content.
