Published: May 7, 2026 ยท Last updated: July 27, 2026 ยท 8 min read

Crashes are one of the most frustrating issues. FH6 is well-optimized, but due to varying hardware configurations and software environments, crashes still occur occasionally. This guide will help you systematically troubleshoot every possible cause and provide solutions for each.

Troubleshooting Order: We recommend checking in this sequence:Drivers โ†’ Game files โ†’ System settings โ†’ Hardware specs. Most crashes are resolved by the first two steps.

GPU Drivers

โ€ข NVIDIA: Use GeForce Experience to auto-update, or manually download the latest Game Ready driver
โ€ข AMD: Use Radeon Software to update to the latest version
โ€ข If problems started after a recent driver update, try rolling back to a previous stable version
โ€ข Laptop users: Ensure the high-performance GPU is selected in your graphics control panel for FH6

VRAM / Memory

โ€ข Lower in-game graphics settings, especially texture quality and shadows
โ€ข Close programs that consume significant VRAM (browsers, streaming software, 3D rendering software)
โ€ข Ensure virtual memory is properly configured (System Properties โ†’ Advanced โ†’ Performance Settings โ†’ Advanced)
โ€ข Dual-GPU laptop users: Force dedicated GPU usage via BIOS or graphics control panel

Game Files

โ€ข Steam: Right-click game โ†’ Properties โ†’ Local Files โ†’ Verify integrity of game files
โ€ข Microsoft Store: Settings โ†’ Apps โ†’ FH6 โ†’ Advanced Options โ†’ Reset
โ€ข Try deleting the Shader Cache (usually in Documents/Forza folder)
โ€ข Temporarily disable real-time antivirus scanning (some antivirus software falsely flags game components)

System Settings

โ€ข Set Windows power plan to High Performance
โ€ข Turn off Xbox Game Bar (Settings โ†’ Gaming โ†’ Xbox Game Bar OFF)
โ€ข Ensure DirectX 12 is installed
โ€ข Install the latest Visual C++ Redistributable
โ€ข Run the game as Administrator

Advanced Diagnostics

Event Viewer Crash Logs

Win+R โ†’ eventvwr โ†’ Windows Logs โ†’ Application. Find errors at the crash time to see specific error codes.

MSI Afterburner Hardware Monitoring

Use MSI Afterburner to monitor GPU temperature, VRAM usage, and GPU utilization. If either approaches limits before a crash, it's a hardware issue.

Contact Official Support

If none of the above resolves your issue, contact official support through:

  • Xbox App: Settings โ†’ Help โ†’ Contact Us
  • Steam: Community forums official support section
  • Official Twitter/X: @ForzaHorizon

When reporting, include: PC specs (CPU/GPU/RAM), OS version, error codes (if any), and what you were doing when it crashed.
