Forza Horizon 6 AE86 Tuning Guide
The "86" from the tofu shop โ the legendary JDM icon from Initial D โ remains one of the most popular beginner drift cars in Forza Horizon 6. What makes the AE86 classic is its lightweight, rear-wheel drive, manual transmission pure configuration, paired with the right tuning, it can execute smooth drifts through any corner.
Tuning Philosophy: The AE86 is not a car that wins by horsepower โ its fun comes from using technique to compensate for mechanical limitations. The core of tuning is making the rear tires lose grip more easily while keeping the car controllable.
Core Tuning Parameters
Tire Pressure
Slightly higher front pressure promotes push-in, lower rear pressure allows more slide โ ideal for drifting
Gear Ratios
Shorter gearing improves acceleration. AE86 doesn't have much power, so skip overly long final drives
Suspension
Front slightly stiff reduces push, rear softer increases tail flexibility for easier drift initiation
Antiroll Bar
Softening the rear antiroll bar is the key to making the AE86 drift more easily
Aerodynamics
The AE86 doesn't need much downforce. A rear wing mainly helps with high-speed stability
Drift Techniques
1. Handbrake Initiation
Before entering a corner, pull the handbrake while turning toward the apex. The AE86's weight distribution is perfect for this technique โ rear tires will break loose effortlessly.
2. Inertia Drift (Hand Brake Skip)
At high speed, lift off the throttle to shift weight forward, causing the rear tires to slide. This is the smoothest drift style โ ideal for long corners and Kyoto mountain roads.
3. Power Oversteer
Best for modified AE86 builds with more power. Keep the throttle planted mid-corner to break rear traction with power. Requires higher entry speed โ great for Osaka's wide corners.

The best place to master the AE86 is on Kyoto's mountain roads. Start with Kyoto โ Northern Route: tight corners and gentle elevation changes make it ideal for practicing drift entry.
